SDG Youth Camp Inspires Future Leaders

The SDG Youth Camp, organized by the Prime Minister’s Office and partners such as MOE, MCYS, BSP, ISB, MBB and GB, concluded on August 14, 2024 with a closing ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Youth Camp held for five (5) days and four (4) nights from 10th August 2024, ended this afternoon, 14th August 2024, with the Closing Ceremony at the Theatre Hall, Prime Minister’s Office.

The SDG Youth Camp organised by the Prime Minister’s Office, as the Secretariat to the Special National Coordination Committee (SNCC) on SDG, with the support of the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) as main event partner as well as in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, International School Brunei (ISB), the Brunei Youth Council and Green Brunei, provides a platform for participants, consisting of Year 9 - 11 students, to explore and understand the SDG goals more broadly, from the context of Brunei Darussalam and global perspective.

Various activities and exposures were conducted throughout the SDG Youth Camp including dialogue, visits, motivational sessions, and community activities which have enhanced the participants’ leadership skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving in preparation for their participation in the upcoming ISB Borneo Global Issues Conference (BGIC) that will be held in October 2024 whereby participation is sponsored by BSP under the award 'Pemuda Mampan’

Attending as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Dayang Chong Chin Yee, Member of the Brunei Darussalam Legislative Council. Also present were Yang Mulia Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad, Permanent Secretary (Wawasan), Prime Minister’s Office, senior officers from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as well as principal from Menglait Secondary School, Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School, Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI), Lambak Kiri Secondary School, Perdana Wazir Secondary School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School and Sports School.

The closing ceremony began with remarks by Yang Mulia Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad, Permanent Secretary (Wawasan), Prime Minister’s Office, expressing her gratitude for the continuous support from partners through a whole-of-nation approach to advancing the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. In her speech, she touched on the aims of the SDG Youth Camp to inspire youth towards sustainability, learn new skills, and adopt a mindset of readiness and adaptability. These are some of the fundamental to encourage and prepare future generation to contribute to meaningful changes through future career pathways and advocacy for a resilient and sustainable future of the country. Yang Mulia Pengirah Hjh Siti Nirmala also expressed her gratitude to BSP for the support on the ‘Pemuda Mampan’ award.

The ceremony then concluded with a certificate presentation by the Guest of Honour and followed by a group photo session.

The participants visited Lamin Warisan, a cultural centre in Tutong, to gain valuable insights into the local heritage and traditions.
Participants also participated in an activity organized in collaboration with SMARTER, an NGO dedicated to supporting individuals with autism.
